Laura Murray

A teacher before she became a children’s writer, Laura Murray has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood education from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. She taught kindergarten for many years before deciding to stay home with her own children and to pursue a children’s writing career. Her first picture book, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2011), was inspired by a primary-grade gingerbread-man unit she used to teach, which culminated in chasing a freshly baked class gingerbread man through the school. It was her students’ favorite unit.
