Eight-year old Grace Schaefer says Heart of Texas:A Lone Star ABC, by Laura Krauss Melmed, is “fun and cool and interesting.” Grace provided her review to Reader Views Kids – reviews by kids, for kids:
"There are many letters that I like in the book -- like letter K that talks about John F. Kennedy and the Kennedy Memorial. Or the letter C that is about the Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth. There is also the letter E for Enchanted Rock and I have been there several times!
"There is a lot of reading. It’s almost like a chapter book with many little words that are hard to read. I do like the art work; it looks like it is painted. I like the bright colors and the people. In the back of the book is a map of Texas showing where each of the ABC’s are located.
"I am still reading it and I keep finding other letters that I like. I’d like to take a vacation to X for the Texas State Fair. I love Heart of Texas: A Lone Star ABC by Laura Krauss Melmed."
Grace is a volunteer reader who lives in Texas and chooses books to read from among those submitted to Reader Views. Irene Watson with Reader Views says “authors can send a book in for a free review and the book will get posted on the list. There is no guarantee whether or not the kids will pick the books. They are predictably unpredictable.” Reader Views provides reader reviews of adult and children’s literature.
Laura's 2008 picture book My Love Will Be With You, received a great review from Publishers Weekly -
"The cozy and warm-toned oil portraits of a father lion licking his cub, awash in golden sunlight, and of a majestic eagle watching over his chick in their lofty mountain nest, are the perfect pairing for the text's gentle rhythm and rhyme scheme. Though certain to tug especially at parents' heartstrings, the reassuring words here will have kids clamoring to share some quiet time reading this book with someone they love."
