Ernest Hemingway: A Writer’s Life (Clarion) by Catherine Reef has been named a Golden Kite Honor Book in Nonfiction by the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. The Golden Kite awards are presented annually to recognize excellence in children’s literature.  Instituted in 1973, the Golden Kite Awards are the only children’s literary award judged by a jury of peers. More than 1,000 books are entered each year.

Ernest Hemingway: A Writer's Life was also named a 2010 Notable Social Studies Trade Book by the National Council for the Social Studies. Booklist author Laura Tillotson considers Ernest Hemingway one of the 30 books in 2009  that most effectively connects with the curriculum.
