Joan Kindig has published Choosing to Read: Connecting Middle Schoolers to Books. Published by Heinemann, the book is intended to help adults motivate pre-teens to read.
“They aren’t going to read A Tale of Two Cities no matter how many times we assign it,” says Joan. “Put Dickens away for a bit and try some books that will turn your students into real readers.” She provides tips on identifying books kids will read as well as ways to identify each student’s independent, instructional and frustration reading levels.
Joan’s book also includes eight essays on student choice by young adult authors.
