Rebecca Jones has been honored with the 2013 Annie Award in Literary Arts from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
The awards recognize lasting, significant and inspiring contributions to the arts by a resident of Anne Arundel County. The citation noted Jones’ 40 year career as an award winning children’s book author, academic editor, writer and professor. She began writing grant-funded books about children and education for the Mott Foundation.
Her most recent book is Captain John Smith’s Big and Beautiful Bay. Earlier titles include The President Has Been Shot! True Stories of the Attacks on 10 U.S. Presidents and The Biggest (and Best) Flag That Ever Flew.
The Arts Council initiated the Arts awards in 2000. Guild member Priscilla Cummings received the Literary Arts Award in 2003.
