Author/illustrator Susan Stockdale’s picture book Spectacular Spots has just been published by Peachtree Press. Called “a spot-on animal gallery for budding nature enthusiasts” by Kirkus Reviews, the book introduces the complexity of the natural world to young readers. Stockdale explores the many ways in which animals benefit from their spots: as camouflage, a distraction, and more. Readers can test their memory of animal spots in the book with a matching game at the end.
Susan was recently interviewed by Mary Ann Cappiello for her blog, The Uncommon Corps. The interview includes the development, from sketch to final image, of several illustrations featured in the book.
