Malala Yousafzai: Warrior with Words (StarWalk Kids Media, 2014; illustrated by L.C. Wheatley)

Fee: Reasonable and negotiable.
Availability: Children in grades 3-5; older students for discussions of writing nonfiction or civic engagement by students; adult groups (librarians, reading specialists and parents).
Features: Interactive presentations focus on the importance of the events and people in my books; the writing and illustrating process - including research and revision; and the importance of civic engagement, especially by young people. There are always lively discussions of opportunities for student activism for civic causes. Hands-on projects included mini-protest signs, "#StrongerThan…" cards inspired by Malala or "Let’s Hold Hands" dolls (letsholdhands.com). I am very willing to tailor presentations to your curriculum objectives, including Common Core Standards. In person or Skype visits possible.
