I'm a Writer's Center instructor and former junior high school teacher. So, after spending years working on a book alone and in the company of other adults, it’s a great privilege to work directly with young people. Interactive presentations include:

  • “Writing with Your Feet” invites students to imagine themselves as writers through an exploration of what goes into writing and publishing novels. The presentation is ideal for groups of 20-35 students.
  • “Flying without a Chicken Hat” encourages children and teens to believe in themselves, set goals, and work toward making their dreams a reality. Examples come from the experiences of a writer, but participants can apply the message to other fields as well. This presentation is suitable for libraries and community groups of various sizes as well as school audiences.
  • Additional presentations can be customized to meet your group's needs.
  • Ethan, Suspended: Booklist starred review; VOYA Top Shelf Fiction for Middle School Readers, 2007.
  • Tillmon County Fire: ALA Rainbow Project nominee, 2009.
