Susan Stockdale

Susan Stockdale writes and illustrates picture books for young children that celebrate nature.

A former textile designer, she expresses her love of pattern through rhythmic, rhyming text and bright, bold paintings to enliven her award-winning books. Her titles playfully explore scientific themes such as how animals benefit from their stripes and spots to how they carry their babies.

A dynamic and popular speaker, Susan has presented at hundreds of schools, libraries and conferences about her bookmaking process. She was selected as a National Book Festival speaker and as an ambassador for Pennsylvania’s “One Book, Every Young Child” statewide literacy program.

Susan lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Learn more at www.susanstockdale.com.
