|Books:||Gopher to the Rescue! A Volcano Recovery Story—A picture book for grades K-5 about the recovery after the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens Volcano. The book follows the healing of the ecosystem as plants and animals colonize the devastated flanks of the mountain. It chronicles the surprising role that tiny gophers played in speeding up the recovery after the volcano.
The Women’s Liberation Movement, 1960 -1990 —The history of the awakening of the women’s movement when women, who had not been able to take advantage of having won the right to vote, felt relegated to the home after WWII and discovered their dissatisfaction with the male dictated status quo. In response to Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique, and fueled by young women’s involvement in the civil rights movement, and protests against the Viet Nam War, women began to demand equal treatment and equal rights.

The Making of Gopher to the Rescue: (K-6) The presentation features the author's journey from idea to publication, including research, interviews with scientists at the scene, review by experts, marrying the text with the illustrator's pictures, working with the editor, further review by experts and reviewing the galley. The author adapts this presentation to the audience. (Variable, <45 minutes)
Women’s History: (6-12) Based on the author’s latest book, The Women’s Liberation Movement, 1960-1990, this interactive presentation highlights the struggle for women’s rights and stresses the need to avoid attributing good or bad qualities to any group whether the group be based on gender, ethnicity, religion or any manner which will result in discrimination. (45 minutes)
